1st basketball AP polls are out and Delphos St. John's girls and boys are ranked in top 10-Girls #3 in Div. 4 and boys #7 in division 4. Girls only loss was in opener to Div 2 #1 Lima Bath. Boys only loss came to defending Div.4 champ and #1 New Knoxville by 4 points at New Knoxville-game was tied until New Knoxville scored with 5 seconds left. This early season success follows the state championship in fall by the football team that finished 2-8 year ago and made up of good # of sophmore starters. Delphos St. John won girls and boys state titles in B-ball in 2002 and football team was state semifinalist the following fall. Maybe Jays can match or top that this year. Go Blue Jays!

The 1st AP polls of 2009 are out for girls and boys B-ball and following the lead of their suprising rebound from a 2-8 season in 07 to state champion in 08 by the football team, Delphos St. John boys ranked 7th in the initial B-Ball poll. This coming off a 8-13 finish last year. They were tied with defending Division 4 state champ and #1 New Knoxville with less than 10 seconds on Jan. 9th but fell short 55-51 for their only loss so far. Followed that 2 days later with big win over archrival Lima Central Catholic and have game this Friday with unbeaten Div. 3 power St. Henry. Delphos St. John girls #3 in 1st poll with 9-1 record with only loss to Div.2 #1 Lima Bath in opener. Look out for both come tournament time. Also look out for fellow MAC power s St. Henry, Anna and New Knoxville in boys and New Bremen and Versailles in girls. The MAC rules. Also beware of Delphos Jefferson, Ottoville and Convoy Crestview in girls. NW Ohio small division football and basketball rule.

Well the 1st polls are out and as I stated before season Berlin Hiland, with help of all state transfer(recruit) from former power Millersburg West Holmes is at #1. Also as I said Convoy Crestview is playing well and #2. And as i warned everyone Delphos St. John is off to suprising start and #3, with only loss to Division II #1 Lima Bath in opening game only hours after Delphos St. John football team won football state championship. Columbus Africentric not rated as high as usual but will be factor in tournament along with New Riegel and Ottoville.

Agree with you about bad call. How many does that give Notre Dame? Unfortunately I thinks it gives them 5 to tie them with Delphos St. John's-who have been a state power for most of last 30 years and win with homegrown smaltown girls and no significant transfers-unlike a few teams in girls BB whose success is tainted by recruiting. You Know Who You Are. And 2 of them played in Div. 4 state final last year.

Of course Berlin Hiland and Columbus Africentric will be favorites again in division 4. Also look for Convoy Crestview and New Riegel. Longtime power Delphos St. John's-who unlike others in division 3 +4 have won over years without recruiting-could suprise and make 10th trip to state. Look for Lima Bath and South Euclid Regina in Div.3. Cincy Notre Dame always a power in Div. 1.

Of course Berlin Hiland and Columbus Africentric will be at top again because of their recruiting. Longtime power Delphos St. John's could suprise people and make a bid for their 10th trip to state. New Riegel and Convoy Crestview could also be factors in division 4. Look for Lima Bath and South Euclid Regina in Division 3. Of course Cincinnati Notre Dame will be factor in big school division.
